Look at the bright side, you know who will be taking care of her and you most likely will see her and him again (probably at least once… ha ha). I had a black lab with my ex girlfriend that I lived with and well, she got to keep the dog. Why I can’t remember really. But after I realized losing the girl wasn’t so bad it hit me I would probably never see my baby pup again. Four years with that little guy, teaching him how to sit, shake, lay down, catch…. It makes me sad to think about it. So I empathize with you and understand your sadness. (By the way, he didn’t get along with other dogs either)
